Armstong was Wrong: We have Immortal Souls!

Yes you heard correctly. Herbert W Armstrong was wrong on the "soul". The Holy Quran, God's final revelation for mankind, clears up this issue. Man has a soul. This soul has a conscious existence after death. We do not need a human sacrifice to save us from sins, we have immortal souls. God forgives through repentance, acts of charity, fasting and ("animal sacrifices" for unintentional sins).

God says through The holy Prophet, Muhammed, "Then He fashioned him in due proportion and breathed into him the soul (created by God for that person); and He gave you hearing (ears), sight (eyes) and hearts. ... And they say: " When we are dead and become lost in the earth, shall we indeed be created anew? Nay, but they deny the Meeting with their Lord! Say: "The angel of death, who is set over you, will take your souls. Then you shall be brought to your Lord". (Noble Quran, Surah 32:9-11).

The soul is a spiritual copy of the physical person. This soul is taken by the Angel of death.

Guardian Angels

God has placed two guardian angels around each person. These are "recording" angels whom write everything a person does in a book called The Record. This record is read out on the Day of Judgement. The soul is not a spirit that records man's life, as Armstrong taught. It is the role of angels to record people's lives.

Surah 50:17, "Remember that two receivers (recording angels) receive (each human being), one sitting on the right and the one on the left (to note his or her actions)." The Noble Quran edition.

Vision of Paul 16, "And when they had led it forth, the customary angel preceded it, and said to it: O wretched soul, I am the angel belonging to thee, relating daily to the Lord thy malign works, whatever thou didst by night or day.

Surah 6:61, "... until when death approaches one of you. Our Messengers (angel of death and his assistant) take his soul, and they never neglect their duty.” (The Noble Quran Edition).

Vision of Paul 17. "And again I saw, and behold a soul which was led forward by two angels, weeping and saying: Have pity on me, just God, God the judge, for to-day is seven days since I went out of my body, and I was handed over to these two angels, and they led me through to those places, which I had never seen."

The angels take away the dead person's soul. The soul is said to ascend into the "seven" heavens. Jewish and Islamic traditions have the soul coming back to watch the funeral. So always be sure you turn up to show your respects!

The Record

The "spirit" in man does not record the activities of the human being. It is the duty of angels. Angels are recording the sins and secrets of people in a manuscript (Vision of Paul) or the Record (Quran).

Vision of Paul: 17 "... Come, angel of this soul, and stand in the midst. And the angel of the sinful soul came, having in his hands a manuscript, and said: These, Lord, in my hands, are all the sins of this soul from his youth till to-day, from the tenth year of his birth: and if thou command, Lord, I will also relate his acts from the beginning of his fifteenth year.

Surah 69:18- 22, "That Day shall you be brought to Judgement, not a secret of you will be hidden. Then as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Here! read my Record! "Surely, I did believe that I shall meet my Account!" So he shall be in a life, well pleasing, in a lofty Paradise".

Surah 6:61, “He is the Irresistible, (Supreme) over His slaves, and He sends guardian (angels guarding and writing all of one’s good and bad deeds) over you, until when death approaches one of you. Our Messengers (angel of death and his assistant) take his soul, and they never neglect their duty.”

Throughout the Holy Quran we are reminded that man has an immortal soul. God says, "I will fill Hell with jinn (devils, elementals etc), and mankind together." (Surah 32:13). Souls languish either in Paradise or in Hell forever. The devils exist with human souls in hell. After death the soul goes to purgatory where it is purified awaiting the "resurrection" back to life on the Day of Judgment. Islam calls it the "intermediate state". Judaism calls it "purgatory".

Armstrong was wrong. He did not understand the soul. The physical body rests and sleeps in the grave. Whereas the soul is taken out of the body having an existence prior to the Day of Resurrection. Tradition in Islam ties the fate of our personal guardian angel with our own fate. So if we end up in Paradise so do they. The guardian angels report to God at midnight about the activities of the soul they are watching (Visions of Paul). Our world has elemental spirits living alongside mankind. These are also judged by God and both will end up facing the Day of Judgment. A host of evil spirits were listening to a recitation of the Holy Quran given to the Prophet Muhammed. "It has been revealed to me that a group (from three to ten in number) of jinn listened to this Quran. They said: "Verily we have heard a wonderful Recitation (this Quran)!" (Surah 72:1).

The evil spirits or elementals believed in the Holy Quran. But the males amongst the jinn "increased mankind in sin and transgression". (Surah 72:5). Angels are both male and female. Contrary to the New Testament, they marry and procreate much in the same way humans do. Elemental spirits have their own communities and generally do not like to come into much contact with human beings. These may include gnomes, fairies, salamanders etc.

Additional books (outside of the Holy Quran) may help us to understand concepts. This means we are not tied to just studying the Holy Quran whilst excluding other books like Muslims do. This creates a fundamentalist approach to religion which we see in modern Islam.
